Over 50 U.S. Institutions Participate in Massive Cyberattack Exercise

CNN reports on an organized attempt to prepare for a large-scale distributive attack.

A large-scale cyberattack drill was carried out last Thursday at around 9 a.m. ET. The “Quantum Dawn 2” exercise coordinated by Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) involved over 50 institutions and included major banks such as JP Morgan Chase and Bank of America. The event was observed by several government agencies, including the U.S. Treasury in an attempt to uncover flaws in the participating institutions’ cyber security.

This drill is especially important for the financial sector due to the recent increase in organized criminals, “hacktivist,” and various government sponsored attacks. Their aim is to prepare themselves for a massive distributive attack by discovering new vulnerabilities and increasing their performance.
