These tools will help you assess and improve your cybersecurity preparedness…
An article review.
If you’re a regular reader of our blog, you know that we think cybersecurity training and the tools that go along with it are vitally important to any organization that relies upon computers—which is pretty much everyone, now. The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) thinks so too, and has issued a press release emphasizing the importance of using standardized tools to “assess and improve cybersecurity preparedness.”
The FFIEC’s own Cybersecurity Assessment Tool is just one of the suggested options for organizations looking to improve their preparedness, along with assessments and frameworks from the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council.
While these tools provide a good jumping off point for organizations performing self-assessments of their cybersecurity preparedness, the FFIEC reminds us that they are not examination tools themselves: cybersecurity risk is constantly evolving, and examiners can change their testing accordingly. While these tools may not completely cover every issue, organizations that utilize them will undoubtedly have less to worry about than those who do not.
