Cisco Discovers Security Vulnerability in Videoconferencing System

Videoconferencing System Security Threat

Just last Friday, Cisco released a warning that their videoconferencing system had been compromised. Serious vulnerabilities were revealed in not only Cisco’s TelePresence kit, but also in their Recording Server, Multipoint Switch, and Endpoint System which would give hackers the ability to crash calls, interject their own code, and execute that code remotely.

These gaps in security were discovered under a controlled testing environment. A statement from the Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team claims that this flaw has never been exploited outside the lab. The fear of course is that, if these vulnerabilities are not addressed quickly, seemingly secure high-end video conferencing could turn into any hacker’s spy-cam.
