One in five UK businesses were struck by DDoS attacks in 2012.

Analytics firm Neustar have recently released a report which reveals twenty-two percent of UK businesses experienced a DDoS attack in 2012. This number is still lower than the 35 percent of US firms who reported DDoS attacks in a separate study carried out in 2012.

The company was quick to point out the similarity in the rates once the Iranian-backed DDoS attacks on US banks were removed from the data pool. Of the firms included in the study, 50 percent experienced e-commerce based attacks aimed at disrupting traffic-dependent websites. The duration of one in five of the attacks was a week or longer. Possibly the largest DDoS attack ever was recorded by mitigation firm Prolexic in May, peaking at 167Gbps.
