Google has released updated versions of both the stable and beta versions of its Chrome browser to address an issue that caused Microsoft antivirus products to identify the browser as malware and in some cases, delete the chrome.exe file from users’ computers.
Microsoft has released updates to address vulnerabilities in Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Windows Mail, Microsoft Windows Live Mail, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications.
According to SANS Internet Storm Center, a recent McAfee anti-virus software update is returning false positives that are causing problems on systems running Windows XP SP3. The problem appears to be that McAfee is flagging the system file svchost.exe as malicious, misidentifying it as a virus named W32.Wecorl.a.
Microsoft has released Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-078 to address a vulnerability in Internet Explorer. This vulnerability is due to an invalid pointer reference in the data binding function. By convincing a user to view a specially crafted document that performs data binding (e.g., a web page, email message, or attachment), a remote, unauthenticated attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code.
